Reviews from some of our customers...

Got taken out for a Valentine's dinner on Sat....first thing that impressed me was the lovely waitress - friendly and helpful. The meal was delicious (for both of us)...chicken n bacon and the fish of the day. I'm from Hamilton but whenever I come down to Taranaki, I always make a point of going out the Bach, even if it's only for coffee (which is divine by the way). First time I've had dinner there but it will definitely not be the last - only next time I will start with a dessert, as the substantial meal didn't leave room for that.
Thank you for a great dinner, service, surroundings.  Sarndra, February 2015

the chocolate zucchini cake is awesome!!! Ive had it twice this week and I'm thinking of bribing you for the recipe.

Wow Barbara you are so generous. The All American Truck club organised dinner at the Bach for 12 people on Sunday night. When we arrived Barbara met us and offered two bottles of wine for the table. Very nice. She also went out and looked at the trucks and came back with great comments and full of enthusiasm for the mens pride and joy. The meal was as always exceptional, with the guests (who were from away) raving about the quality of the food and service. I always choose Barbara's vegetarian meal, which on Sunday night was the haloumi and kumara dish. Yummmm. Once again Barbara and team you are exceptional. Jill, Mike and truckies, January 2015

Time marches on and I have been meaning to drop a line since the family and I visited 'The Bach' for my birthday 20th August. I was fortunate I had a voucher but of course our numbers grew and we each paid a portion of the extra. A fabulous night and meal to boot. We are not so easy to have our culinary requests met with only one in a party of nine a meat eater....he was more than satisfied AND so were the rest of us - four children who ate their plates clean and had a ball. And as for the other four, the salmon stack was suberb. Great friendly service and a night to remember. Thanks Barb to you and your team. Lyndsay Loveridge, September 2014

I wouldnt have thought there would have been a cafe like this down by the port but was very pleasantly surprised.
Not many tables left on Saturday morning , but found a comfy corner couch near the back. Wow, what a cool place.
Funky cutlery holders, nice art, nice outlook, rustic theme, funky chunky wood tables, friendly service.
I like the coffee and loved the food, cabinet food looked great and lots of people eating breakfast/brunch. All looked great.
Super yummy cheese scones.
Busy little cool cafe ... Mr Shin, July 2014

I've been to Bach twice (April 2013 and March 2014) and had the brunch stack both times. Even a year apart it was just as I remembered - giant homemade hash, crispy bacon, avacado, sour cream and salsa and couldn't be faulted on presentation or taste. The service was great and my food came out quickly. I was too full to try and of the sweets but the cabinet food (sweet and savoury) looked yummy. I will definitely be back on my next trip to New Plymouth. The Bach is a must visit when in New Plymouth. The food is delicious, delectable and downright fantastic, catering to all needs; the service is friendly and warm; the atmosphere is superb, especially at high tide on a grey and windy day. I love the colour schemes, the pinnies, the coffee, the Bach! The worst thing about the Bach is deciding what to have - everything looks so good. A great way to spend relaxing time with friends over a good meal or just to sit and soak up the surrounds with coffee and cake. Thank you so much. I'll be back. Fran, Bunderburg, Australia, Feb 2014

To Barbara, Donna and team, We would like to sincerely thank you all for the venue, food and attentive service we received last night at our daughter Whitney's wedding. All I spoke to who attended enjoyed their meals. We were delighted to see the bridal table especially well looked after as they had had a very busy day and were hungry on arrival. Thank you for allowing us to add our own touches, and to finish the evening with lingering guests without pressure. Please pass on our compliments to the chef, and kitchen and bar staff who did an excellent job and did not get acknowledged on the night, this was certainly an oversight on my part. With gratitude Diana and Philip Brown, Wedding Reception

Hi Barbara, I just wanted to thank everyone at the Bach for helping to make our wedding such a memorable, fantastic day. We had the most special day, due in no small part to Tilly and all the staff who worked that night. The venue was perfect, exactly what we had hoped for. The food was amazing! There wasn’t one negative comment from 80 people, in fact it was so good that around 60% of our guests were back for breakfast. The main comment we had from our guests was that they were so impressed at how well the meals were delivered – there was no waiting and the food really was beautiful. I can’t speak highly enough of Tilly – she is so calm and capable. An absolute pleasure to deal with. Once again, thank you so much to everyone involved. Every now and then I have to look at our photos just to make sure I didn’t dream the whole thing! I will send you a photo as soon as I am able to. Cheers, Kathy and Bob, Wedding Reception

Stunning meal, loved everything. Hubby said his steak was the best he had ever had, cooked perfectly all through, everything was perfect certainly will recommend to my friends, and anyone else who will listen. Barbara, February 2014

I have been to the Bach for dinner a number of times and each time I have found the staff very lovely and the meals are really tasty. I do like the 3 course meal deal a great bonus. I look forward to eating there again in late this month. Madonna Watts, October 2013

Hello there. Tonight I went to your lovely restaurant for the first time (other than a muffin 4 years ago) and I wanted to take the time to say how much I loved my meal. I am a vegan and just the fact that you had some vegan options was amazing, but the best part was that your main vegan meal was absolutely amazing! I must say that it was the best meal I have eaten at a restaurant in New Plymouth. My only minor disappointment was that there wasn't vegan options in the fixed menu. But oh well, the meal was amazing. Thank you for catering to us vegans so perfectly!

Hi Barbara, Just wanted to send a quick message to thank you for once again for such a lovely evening, and another delicious meal. My partner and I have dined at the Bach several times now, and we choose to continue coming back as we cannot fault the food and reckon we can't find anything better in town! However, on out last visit you really out-did yourselves. As it was my Birthday, after having a beautiful meal, I thought I'd go ahead and squeeze in some dessert 'when in Rome'. I chose your dark chocolate moose with orange marmalade and WOW - it was utter heaven in a pot!! I'm a big chocolate lover, and have been known to be a tad picky with my chocolate desserts, but this has seriously topped my list by a long shot. But the main reason for me sending this message, was that I noticed the moose is labelled 'vv'....which am I right in thinking means it is vegan!? If this is the case then all I can say is that you and your team are officially super-heros. How on earth did you create such a devine , indulgent, chocolatey dessert that is vegan!? I for one am both fascinated and out-standed. And will be coming back for some more for sure! Keep up the good work, you have a wonderful team and the Bach is an asset to New Plymouth. There's nothing else like it in my eyes. Will be back to see you all soon! Sarah, September 2013

Thank you to all the staff at the Beach Breakwater Restaurant. From walking through your front door to leaving more than 1hr later, every minute spent celebrating our wedding anniversary was a joy and surprise, and we will defiantly be back in October to celebrate a family birthday (and what a lovely and great selection of food and coffee). Peter, New Plymouth, Taranaki, September 2013

My partner and I came here for Valentines day and we could not have been more impressed, the food was exceptional, and service was excellent too, the lady serving us was a new staff member and you wouldn't have known she was still training. She was so polite and professional. Thank you for a wonderful evening, my partner and I came away feeling very full and will definitely be back in the near future. Sharalee, New Zealand, February 2013

Great food, charming quirky decor, friendly helpful staff! And the sight of my daughter waiting tables added bonus! :) Ruth, March 2013

Quality Excellent. We enjoyed a superb meal here two days ago. This restaurant had a bad time last year, but is now clearly back at its previous high standard. The food in each course- pork crackling then lamb shanks, cheese sticks then snapper, followed by lovely light desserts- was of the best quality and beautifully presented. The staff were excellent. We are glad to see the Bach up with the best again. Ruth Marris, New Zealand February 2013

Your restaurant is by far my favourite place in New Plymouth to go for dinner - the food is always beautiful, the atmosphere is comfortable and cosy and the front of house staff are polite and earnest. The birthday club gives our young family the opportunity to have a few extra special evenings out. There are a couple of things that would make Bach on Breakwater a more appealing option for coffee/brunch get togethers for my friends and I, the main one being the baby-friendliness. In past I wasn't able to find a change table in the bathrooms and a box of toys to keep the little ones occupied goes a long way too. As a passionate tea drinker, most places around give a 3 cup pot of tea for a single serve (still only needs 1 teabag and a bit of time to steep) and finer cups to drink from than the normal heavy coffee cups. Having a topup or two while my date is still sipping their flat white is pretty important. I'm already singing the praises of dinners at Bach to everyone I know. Louise, New Plymouth, August 2012

HI, just got home from a lovely eveing out at the Bach. We went with my mother in law for her birthday and took our two children (5 and 18 months) Eating out with littleones can be difficult and I want to thank you for making it much less so. From the Toddler box to the activity sheet and crayons, the speedy delivery of the kids meal and the delay of ours (as I had to race home to get the milk I had forgotten) your staff made the evening very enjoyable. My Mother in law even said she had the best lamb EVER so thanks very much. Michelle, May 2012

We had a fantastic evening at `The Batch" last Saturday evening and we all without exception talked of the high quality food and the service and ~The Batch' is certainly on everyone's list list for recommending to friends who may be visiting New Plymouth. Many thanks to Donna for her courteous and unobtrusive table waitressing and to Jessica and her team who cooked and presented most scrumptious meals. The Birthday cake was just a gem and went down well with its banana and pineapple. Thanks to all and I am sure we will be returning!... Bruce May 2012

I was delighted to find that Bach on Breakwater could organise a gift voucher for me remotely.  I was organising a gift for a friend who is moving to New Plymouth. I called up, paid by credit card, then they sent me the gift voucher in the mail.  It was very easy!  My initial e-mail enquiry was responded to very promptly and the staff were very friendly and helpful." What a find. My husband has to work in New Plymouth approximately once every two months. We asked at the hotel we were staying at if there were any waterfront cafes in New Plymouth, no one seemed to know of any ! When my husband had a bit of spare time recently he discovered this cafe. We had lunch there recently and were delighted to find they used the same coffee we used in our beach resort town cafe we recently sold. We owned the cafe for five years and I made coffee all of that time so we knew what it should taste like and weren't disappointed. The setting, staff and food were all lovely, we will definitely be back ! Delwyn, Whangamata, Feb 2012

What a fantastic spot. We were told we may have to wait a little which was fine, but the service was faster than the average restaurant. and the Lemon Possett was divine! We went back the next day just for the dessert. Any chance of the recipe??? Lisa and Troy, Taupo and New Plymouth, January 2011

Celebrated another wonderful birthday meal Awful weather outside, but lovely warm & inviting atmosphere inside. Food just amazing and service friendly and efficient Always enjoy the experience. Ngaire Jury, New Plymouth, August 2010

I'm in love with the Bach, everytime I visit wether for a coffee or a meal the service and food are just great second to none. Nicky Clement, New Plymouth, July 2010

Hi Barbara, Thank you so much for a lovely lunch yesterday, it was Mothers Day and three generations sat down and enjoyed once again a fabulous meal with outstanding service and views. We all belong to the birthday club and recommend your establishment to everybody we know. The food is always fresh and tasty and we love working our way through the menu every time we visit. Thanks again for a great day :-) Tania Evans, New Plymouth, May 2010

Thank you for the $15 voucher which we used at Easter time when my niece was visiting us from Wellington. Nice to catch up over coffee and yummy cake. Also a big thank you for the surprise $50 voucher we received in the mail a week or so ago. We thought we would share it by taking our friends for dinner with us. We all enjoyed our meals especially the Lamb meal it was so melt in the mouth. Just a mention to the staff who looked after us, the young man and ' Kim ' who really makes you feel you are special people while dinning at The Bach. Many thanks Marilyn, new plymouth, May 2010
